Air Purifier Basics
First, however, lets start with a basic introduction about air purifiers. Many people buy air purifiers to relieve some symptoms of allergies or asthma. Air purifiers remove sometimes dangerous particles from the air that can irritate a persons lungs.
Such particles may include smoke, pet dander, dust and pollen. There are a few things to look for when purchasing a quality home air purifier. Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) shows the maximum square footage where you should use the purifier and how quickly the machine can remove particles from the air.
HEPA traps dust and very small airborne particles into the filter inside the air purifier. Some air purifiers have an Asthma and Allergy Friendly certification, proving that they can actually get rid of and not just redistribute allergens.

Things To Consider
The Best Air Purifiers Usually Use HEPA Filters
Try to make sure that it has a HEPA filter. The filter is nice by itself, and is a great addition to any other purifier. As it is a great screen for most particulates, taking most of them out even if it’s part of another purifier.
Also, try for an ultra-violet system inside the purifier, especially if you get a HEPA filter. This ensures that your purifier will not acquire a mold or bacteria colony, and thus not throw those contaminants into the air you are trying to clean.
Debate ozone and ionic purifiers. They have pluses and minuses. Although they are pretty good at purifying the air and carry additional therapeutic advantages, they create potential problems. Particularly if someone has severely sensitive allergies. Also, ozone purifiers may increase the rate at which rubber and plastic degrade
Bigger is not always better. Consider how much air you need to have purified, and debate buying more than one. If you are looking for something just for front room, you may not need as big a unit as if you are trying to purify two or three rooms. At the same time, you may be dealing with constant dust problems, or be dealing with pretty clean air in the first place.
Also, you may need differing levels of purification (you may need a back bedroom to very pure, but in the front room you only want to run the purifier every so often).
Just be aware that the best air filter is not always the most expensive. Make sure that you are informed before you buy. This allows you to feel comfortable with the one you are buying. The goal is to match your needs and requirements, not have the biggest toy.
The Best Air Purifiers Are Not Created Equal
Keep in mind that you can buy different kinds of purifiers for different reasons. You may want a straight HEPA filter for the front room because you like scented candles. Then you want an ozone purifier for a back room because you want to be thorough.
The bottom line is that your requirements come before the salesman’s commission. Keep that in mind when you go online or to the store to buy your purifier.
